Strategies for the future: COMMUNITY CHALLENGES  FOR THE NORTHERN PERIPHERY and the world  September, 2001.

available for download in pdf format

Compiled by Emma Perring, for the SafeinHerit Network

This document is intended for the use of communities, and individuals living within communities in the northern periphery area.  It is also for the use of local and regional governments, and other public agencies. The SafeinHerit Network believe it is essential for these target groups, concerned with community development and/or sustainable resource management, to read on.

The document will also be of value outside the northern periphery area and to people and organisations not directly associated with community development or sustainable resource management; everyone has a responsibility and a requirement to maintain the high quality environmental and cultural assets which underwrite the long term viability of the entire world.

FAIR ISLE SHELLFISH
STOCK MANAGEMENT SCHEME

PILOT STUDY: FIRST YEAR’S RESULTS, 2000
by IAIN STOUT and NICK RIDDIFORD, Fair Isle, March 2001

Fair Isle has a lobster-fishing tradition which dates back centuries and has been a part-time activity for island families throughout this century.
A licence to operate commercially from a yoal (small Fair Isle boat) has recently been purchased in deference to legal requirements and the wish of the community to play a full part in the sustainable management measures which the new Order and the SSMO represent.

THE IMPACT OF THE INTERNET ON THE
NEEDS OF COMMUNITY BASED NETWORKS,
IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SAFEINHERIT NETWORK.

This a version of an essay written by Emma Perring, Fair Isle, for an
assignment for an MSc in Library and Information Studies she is currently studying for.  Emma - who is involved in a few SafeinHerit projects - had to write an essay on the impact of the Internet on a specific organisation, and relate it too other similar organisations.  While the essay is particularly relevant to the SafeinHerit Network, it does have applications to other networks of this nature.
